Mill No. 8 Returns Home: Chicago, IL
Chicago. The city with a confluence of cultures. An amazing mix of architectural marvels and important business centers in the world. A city where two walks, just a few miles apart, Lake Shore Drive and a Magnificent Mile seem so different. There’s so much the city has to offer from quirky museums, interesting bars to amazing natural parks.
If you are a first timer to the city or ‘Chicago, City-proper’, the city has a ton of interesting facets, if you just look around. We decided to showcase the city in a new light this time. We had to ride high on LSD to get going (really?)
Started in 2005, it was christened as a solid American bistro fare. Get a real taste of burger here, simply one the finest burgers you get on the planet.
For a long time on our bucket list, we couldn’t resist gorging on the delicious burgers and enjoying a local whiskey. Kuma’s takes pride in supporting homegrown communities and features an exclusive selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic labels from local purveyors. Get ready to get jammed along, even if you are not a metal enthusiast. As they say, Kuma’s and Metal go together like Beef and Bacon.
The flagship store is located at 2900 W. Belmont Ave, Chicago, Illinois 60618 USA
Alinea is simply one of the most amazing experiences we had. It is how the modern age restaurants should be. It’s tough to get a seat and be ready to wait for weeks.
With its innovative approach, it is considered one of the best restaurants in Chicago.
With an extensive experimentation with Molecular gastronomy, it gives a new spin to how a conventional food looks like. Fasten your seatbelt, while you get new twists and swirls to your senses. Have you tried ‘mustard’ ice cream, ‘distilled’ liquid of Thai chilies in a shot-glass, ‘spherified’ dips or ‘solid’ sauces? Well, we won’t steal the thunder. Check out yourself.
It’s not just the preparation, but the presentation is also elaborate and nonconventional. You must have guessed it by now.
Look at the delicious Applewood ice cream served with cubes, at the end of foot-long steel wire, served in a porcelain plate.
Location: 1723 North Halsted, Chicago, Illinois 60614
Played at Annoyance theater, Hitch*Cocktails is an amazing late-night Friday offering directed by Stephanie Vlcek. In the style of Alfred Hitchcock, it’s a drinking game, where the cast will enact a full-length thriller. The rule is that, if offered a drink, the performer must finish by the end of the scene. True to the high-class crime, the stage is full of drinks for all. As it happened in our case, by the end of the show, it was too much to handle the suspense and for actors to stand up!
It runs on Fridays at 10 PM usually. If you cannot make it, the Annoyance theater also offers other spectacular shows.
Plays at: 851 W. Belmont Avenue, Chicago, IL
U 505 Submarine @ Museum of Science + Industry in Chicago
Elusive. Deadly. Captured. – as the museum puts it.
U 505 was one of the deadly subs of Germany, captured by the US forces on June 4, 1944, during WW II. It is the only German sub in the U.S., displayed at this dramatic exhibit and national war memorial.
Shortly after getting captured by the US forces, Source: Wikipedia
In the Museum since 1954, the dramatic story of its capture and life is showcased in a grandeur exhibit. This is a one of a kind opportunities to take a peek into the war-era and visualize the underwater lives.
The sub has a dual distinction of being the "most heavily damaged U-boat to successfully return to port" and the only “submarine in which a commanding officer took his own life in combat conditions.”
The museum is open from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm CT. And is located at 5700 S Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60637
